looong day in freeport, IL, the largest community in a county (stephenson)
dotted with remote little farming towns.
a brochure about it would probably boast that it combines the ambiance
of a small town with the amenities of a city.
i had time to kill in between work and meeting someone for dinner (startin
to have a social life out there!),
so i asked one of the art students to draw me a map of the highlights
of freeport, displayed above.
it seems really unfortunate that the mcdonald's arch has
to be such a prominent icon on this map,
but hey, he tried and tried well. i went to the art museum and strolled
by "klub phenomenon"
this also would be a case of rival maps, as when i stared at the finished
piece, two jock-ish students surrounded me
and in accusatory voices, they spoke: "uhhh, that's not accurate!
the mcdonalds is really down there, not up here"
- -met with rolling of the eyes and a grumble from mapmaker number one--
i assured him that i loved it.
still, before i left one of the more perfectionist students
handed me this new and improved map,
with the directions to the art museum highlighted in a pink marker. seen
below ...
