The
poetic dimension of light in nature has always directed
my eyes skywards. Its changes at different
seasons and parts of the day exert great influence
on a person's mood and awareness of time and space.
I wanted to create an optical element
evocative of the sun's eerie lightshow near the
earth's magnetic poles. the aurora. Both
the piece and the phenomenon reflect my interest the underlying structure that gives
rise to aesthetic beauty.
AUROREAL is an example of diffraction: when light
waves pass a narrow grating, they
spread into well-defined directions: a spectrum.
In addition to being a major component in holography and
optics, peacock feathers and butterfly wings owe
their shimmering color to diffraction. |
