GHOST
is the luminous fossil-remains of a mythical aquatic creature,
once a denizen of the prehistoric Lake Lahontan. The dry lake bed is now the alkaline floor of the Black Rock Desert: one
of the flattest places on Earth.
I was honored to design this for
implentation into a project entitled L3K
run by an art and technology collective called the Mad-Scientists,
led by "Wizard" Tim
Black. This year, the project consisted
of a 2000 foot ring of shifting LED patterns, including
cellula automata "ringpets," dashed in the
center of the former lakebed now known as the playa, around
the Man.
The project will be adding various interactors to control
and create light sequences in realtime, and the GHOST
will function as one of them.
Pictures above are from the 2006 installation; check back
in 2007 and better yet, COME to Black Rock City! |
