The
video begins with my real hand alongside its own reflection
in the plexi housing. The hand that reaches back
is the hologram: my own transparent duplicate. The reflective
plexi contains only a narrow window that the viewer must
look through to see the whole image.
Here presents three different optical
means of seeing: lightwaves greet our
eyes from the actual object (my hand), the reflection,
and the holographic re-materialisation.
Jean Baudrilliard, who deemed holography the "luminous
ectoplasm of our own body," refers to the laser as
a luminous scalpel, removing one's spectral clone. "It operates on you to remove the double...The
double that hid in the depths of you...The feeling of
passing to the other side of our own body..." - from Simulacra and Simulation |
