final map in the series from my flat in london to the holography studio
in a much different part of town; Richmond.
this streetfinder was given to me by my teacher, who drew a penline as
an example route from the train station. the pen-
marked footpath is only visible if you look closely, and is only one of
many potential routes - thus, i got all turned
around many times and this altered map was always in my hand. my
gridlike chicago orientation was a lost cause
for this pile-of-spaghetti disorganization of the streets and avenues.
it was only when i'd arrive at marker a.
(link above) that i would see a landmark so distinctive that i knew i
was on the
correct path: a bright yellow "washeteria" which amiably welcomed
me every time i would see its familiar shine. after
twisting and turning on a myriad of streets and alleys, in a useless attempt
to find the same route as the previous day,
only seeing this yellow facade pop out of the numerous array of picturesque
buildings would calm my nerves and assure
me that i wasn't far from the final destination (marker
b.) which had originated over in map one, "flat 3."
