TIME-LAPSE MAPPING aka The Dark
Duplex is a personal case study of memory
mapping, now in its third year. Atom (owner of Chicago's
famed Atomix coffeeshop) grew up on Linden Hills Blvd., Minneapolis
in the 1970's, and hasn't been back there in 20 years. His childhood
street would be the subject of this project: how much will he
remember year after year; how will it feel to look at previous maps
and compare their slight innacuracies; how can improvised maps, created
without any forewarning, display the pliability of one's memory of
their first home, the universe of their street? The
results diagram the rich associations between memory and imagination..

UPDATE:: After requesting (without any warning,
of course) the most recent map of 2006, I had the chance to visit
Linden Hills Blvd., Minneapolis on my own, using all three maps as
my only guide to identify the buildings annotated within them. More
