this highly punctuated map was acquired during my second visit to the
city of Muse, otherwise known as San Francisco, California.
a small city as compared to what i'm used to, yet directionally i am lost
at every corner; this was created to help direct me to
a dj gig that i wasn't aware of until that day (SF - the city of perpetual
surprises).
i must say, this map has some of the best little 3D illustrations
in my entire collection - when i start issuing awards, this one gets a
medal for
all the fabulous foreshortening and attention to detail! landmarks
are as follows:
top right corner is North Beach, the neighborhood i was staying at - and
just two hops, a skip and a somersault away is chinatown, as marked with
a drawing of a pagoda (yep, thats what that is!). just below the
pagoda is a drawing of one of those world famous cable cars on the less-frequently
traveled california street line, on the far right a little indication
of the happy donuts where i can get hot coffee and cheerful donuts
at all hours [and of course i included a photo], and further yet
is the transamerica pyramid which glitters the downtown.
the downward slant of market street leads to the shop
where the map was created, ambient airlines, which i believe is in the
hayes valley area (though admittedly i only have a very vague idea of
where one 'hood ends and the next 'hood begins) and further still to an
oxygen bar in the mission district where i was to play an impromptu downtempo
set and sip delicious energy drinks the following day.
again i will state that this is the city of Muse, in this city you will
find many, many layers of sensory experience amidst the fresh , moist
ocean
air: this place is jam-packed and overwhelmingly
dense with stimulation and with details and with people who are enchanted
and alive,
in a city so unlike any other that one must really take a bit of care
not to blow a fuse . . . or to forget the past identity
one"escapes" from in order to live there. (on the fact that
this is a city of transplants and denarration)
