"you are her"

now i know what a map looks like when the creator of it is a wandering troubador
in san francisco, in the process of showering a random female with compliments.

when it comes to the hurling yourself at the bohemian life, noah had the goods:
long, matted hair, a grizzled but friendly face, a guitar strapped to his body and
about 7,563 little bandanas and various "earthy" fabrics arranged from head to toe.

noah talked quite a bit, and even sang a little.  he said he liked midwesterners like
myself, that people from chicago, detroit and st. louis know when to keep their
guard up, and when to let it down, "not like all these stoned-out californians"
[disclaimer: this is his opinion. most folks i met there were incredibly sharp.]

the only surface i had available for this map was on the inside of a book i'd just
bought, called "the monstrous and the marvelous," at the city lights bookstore.

i like the map. very minimal and clear. it made up for having to deal with paper-thin
compliments for twenty minutes.  i haven't blurred out his address yet; noah (well,
his real name is david) would most likely welcome anyone and everyone into his place
on columbus anyways. in fact, if anyone is in north beach, san francisco, they'll
probably run into him. he's a nice guy, so tell him i said hello.
